fuelnaija helps Lagosians find faster and cheaper fuel information: providing once-murky queue and price data to help drivers in Lagos find fuel fast.

The core idea is simple: Nigerian fuel stations are already visited hundreds of thousands of times daily. fuelnaija turns those local reports into information for everyone.

Instead of relying on fast-changing rumours, users can check fuelnaija before they move.

Why does fuelnaija exist?

There has been extensive research done on fuel scarcity in Nigeria, which highlights a paradox where the world's sixth-largest oil producer faces chronic shortages, causing severe economic hardship year after year.

In Nigeria, buying fuel means wasted time, extra transport costs, and unnecessary stress. fuelnaija was created to reduce some of that uncertainty.

fuelnaija collects and displays community reports from people on the ground to help users make smarter decisions about where to buy fuel and which stations to avoid.

What makes fuelnaija different?

fuelnaija is Nigeria’s first fuel tracking platform powered by WhatsApp reporting.

WhatsApp is used by roughly 95.1% of Nigeria's internet users, and is already part of daily life in the country. Users do not need to download a new app. They can simply report what they see at a fuel station through a platform they already use.

This makes fuelnaija extremely accessible, and built for Nigerians.

The platform combines:

  • crowdsourced station reports

  • WhatsApp-based data collection

  • live station updates

  • queue and price information

  • a map-based interface for easier planning

The result is a fuel tracker designed with Nigerians in mind.

Founder, Olisaemeka Odukwe

I'm a Nigerian student passionate about mathematics, data, and my country Nigeria, and I first launched fuelnaija in August 2025.

I grew up in Nigeria and witnessed major scarcity events in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023-2024. I wanted to build something useful for the country, using my mathematics and coding knowledge.

fuelnaija combines community reporting, simple technology, and real-time information to create a tool built for everyday Nigerians.
